10 Oct 2006 – Scientology Volunteer Ministers Help the Contestants of the “Asian Miles Contest” in Kin Men
As the Scientology Volunteer Ministers began wrapping up their activities in Kin Men, preparing to go on to the next city in their Asian Tour, they were approached by one of the organizers of the “Asian Miles Contest” to bring their unique skills to the grueling sports event.
With the event known as an “Iron Man” contest, athletes come from all over the world, to swim across the channels that separate various island in this archipelago and top it off with events where they cycle, run, climb and canoe.
The grueling contest leaves participants completely depleted physically, and one of the organizers, who had seen Volunteer Ministers at work at the Taipei Marathon, asked them for their help.
And that help took the form of Scientology Assists. Assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard. They operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. By administering assists, the Volunteer Ministers were able to help the contestants recover from the incredible physical strain they had just put their bodies through.
One contestant had injured himself, and was amazed to see that the assist brought him immediate relief. This prompted other athletes to ask for assists as well. In all, 35 “Iron Men” learned the benefit of these remarkably simple techniques (as did some of the event organizers and spectators as well).
